Zazie Olivia Beetz was born in Berlin in 1991. Her father is an German cabinet maker who immigrated in the United States in 1990 after the falling of the Berlin Wall, and her mother is a South Africa-American social worker who hails from New York. Jennifer Aniston attended the same high school as Beetz. Beetz was a student of French in Skidmore College after graduating LaGuardia. She began auditioning immediately after having graduated from college. After a few auditions in Atlanta Beetz was able to land the part of Van. Beetz is a native of Berlin and was the daughter of an ethnically mixed German father, as well as an African American mother. They both grew up within New York. Zazie started performing on local and community stages during her childhood. In grade school she started acting, and eventually became a professional actor. The actress's Disney Channel Breakout Role Zendaya's dancing skills certainly paid off. In 2010, the dancer and actress finally landed her breakout performance when she was cast in the role of Rocky Blue in the show "Shake It Up" alongside her co-star Bella Thorne. Zendaya, then 11, became vegetarian after she saw an animal slaughterhouse during the trip with her dad. Zendaya tells PEOPLE, "I thought it was horrible, seeing all the animals getting packed up and in a cage waiting to be killed. That's not the way I ate my meat! Since that time she's been adhering to a strict plant-based eating plan.
